Exploring Puerto Princessa, Palawan: Crocodile Farm

After the heavy downpour of rain coming from Honda Bay Tour, our spirits weren't drenched and we were still thirsty for another adventure. This time, we decided to check out the Crocodile Farm located in Brngy. Iwahig. It was about a 30-minute ride from the city proper.

Entrance fee is only PhP40. The will give you a quick tour of the farm, where they explain how they preserve, and culture the crocodiles. They have a canteen there that sells crocodile meat, explaining that their meat is a lot healthier and only contains 1% calorie.

Crocodiles are carnivorous so they are being fed by the care-takers with meat. And they are very aggressive too, so we were cautioned to stay away. (of course!)

They also grouped the crocodiles according to their sizes. So they hatch lings stay together, and the bigger ones are separated. (Maybe to keep the bigger ones from eating the younger ones?)

It was also explained that saltwater crocodiles are territorial, so they keep this saltwater crocodile away from the rest and leave him alone.

leave me alone!

You can also have the option to have your picture taken carrying a hatchling, you just have to pay a donation. My hubby was game to try this.

game!

all smiles!

did they say croc meat is healthy?

I was scared and hesitant to try it alone. So we did it together...

But then I thought, what the heck! I'm on vacation, I might as well try everything!

We were a bit exhausted after the tour, so we decided to go home, but we couldn't help but make one last stop, that is to take a picture of this lovely scene.
